HoG Awards Scholarships
Twenty-five students received John Youtsey Memorial Scholarships from Hemophilia of Georgia for the 2009-2010 academic year. Read profiles of some of these outstanding students.
Governor Issues Executive Order to Establish Hemophilia Study Panel
On July 29, 2009, Governor Sonny Perdue issued an Executive Order appointing a Hemophilia Study Panel. This action follows his May 11 veto of Senate Bill 159, The Hemophilia Advisory Board Act. In a statement accompanying his veto, the governor said, "I will issue an Executive Order to establish an advisory board similar to the one contemplated by SB 159." While there are similarities between the legislation and the Executive Order, the differences are substantial and troubling to the bleeding disorder community. Read more about the new study panel.

Camp Wannaklot Receives Outstanding Support
Camp Wannaklot received generous support of nearly $30,000 for the 2009 camping program, held last month at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia. Read more about Camp Wannaklot and see pictures of some of our campers.
2009 Teen Institute - Action Brings Change
Team Jams, Family Groups and Pep Rallies brought together five Hemophilia of Georgia (HoG) youth leaders to the Action Brings Change Institute (ABCI) at Oxford College, June 15th-17th. As a part of the HoG youth leadership initiative, the Generation of Heroes, teens are selected to participate in this 3-day leadership camp. Read more about the Teen Institute.

School In-Service Presentations
HoG offers school in-services because it is important that teachers and school officials feel comfortable knowing what to do for a bleeding problem, instead of calling 911 for a minor problem or, at the other extreme, failing to let parents know about important concerns about their child’s health. Even if your child is returning to the same school, he/she might have a new teacher(s) or a new school nurse. They may just need reminders of what to do to prevent bleeding problems and how to respond appropriately when they do have a problem. Read more about School In-Service Presentations.
Common Pain Reliever Usage Recommendations Updated
People who have bleeding disorders frequently use Tylenol, generic acetaminophen or other pain medications which contain acetaminophen (e.g. Vicodin and Percocet) for pain relief. However, taking too much acetaminophen may cause liver damage, especially if you are using a combination medicine such as Percocet and taking more than the recommended dose. If you are a female HoG client, please join us in October for a weekend retreat! While learning a yoga sequence tailored just to women, you will also learn new ways to manage the physical and emotional symptoms associated with your bleeding disorder. SPACE IS LIMITED! A House in the Trees
A new tree house opened this summer at Camp Twin Lakes! Our campers enjoyed this new addition and its amazing features, such as an observatory, green roof, boardwalk, and slide. Sitting next to one of the lakes, this wheelchair accessible tree house is as spacious as it is beautiful. Read more about the tree house.
