Mighty Sticker Club
February was a very busy month! Welcome to the four newest members of the Mighty Sticker Club (MSC). To become a member, one must master the steps of self-infusion, including mixing factor, selecting a vein, sticking oneself, infusing factor, and completing a treatment calendar.
Blake is nine years old and is in third grade. He has a twin brother, William, who also has a bleeding disorder. He loves to play baseball and play outside. He enjoys watching the Auburn Tigers and the Chicago Bears. His outreach nurse, Nancy, describes Blake as “very determined and a hard worker.” He is very excited to start Hemlibra subcutaneous (under the skin) treatment next month.
Jacob is ten years old and is in fifth grade. He has many diverse hobbies from playing guitar, to riding horses, to riding a dirt bike (with a helmet, of course!). He is a big fan of all the Atlanta professional sports teams. He also enjoys comic books. His outreach nurse, Mary Ann, credits his mother for teaching him to infuse. “She’s been a big supporter from the beginning,” said Mary Ann. Mary Ann hopes to see Jacob at Camp Wannaklot this year for his first time at a sleep-away camp. She said, “He’s going to love it.”
Jaylynn is eleven years old and is in fifth grade. He loves to watch and play football and his favorite teams are the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons. He is a history buff and likes to read about WWI and WWII. His outreach nurse, Mary Ann, told HoG that she’s proud of the great strides Jaylynn has made in managing his bleeding disorder. “He’s a great kid,” she commented.
Joshua is eleven years old and is in fifth grade. His outreach nurse, Penny, told HoG according to Joshua, now that he is a member of the MSC, he won’t have to go to the doctor to get infusions and can now live on his own. Maybe in a few years, Joshua. Joshua credits his dad for sticking with him (no pun intended) and helping him learn to self-infuse. Joshua tells anyone that asks, “Yes, it hurts, but you can do it!” Penny shared, “This amazing guy is very inquisitive and likes to amaze you with his stories.”
They were all awarded Mighty Sticker Club certificates and Wal-Mart gift certificates for their hard work. Congratulations!
