Hi we are the members of the Junior Board of Directors of HoG. It is truly an honor to volunteer with HoG and work with people in the bleeding disorder community.  We are so excited to work with this community and would love for you all to get to know us a bit more. We thought we would share a little bit about each one of us in upcoming issues of Horizons in Hemophilia.  Let’s start with our Chairman!

Tyler Guffey is the Chairman of the Junior Board of Directors of Hemophilia of Georgia.  He was born and raised in Dalton, Georgia and has a seven year old son, Preston, who is the light of his smile.  Tyler enjoys coaching his son’s soccer team and is an avid participator in Mud Run Marathons.

Tyler started volunteering for HoG in the summer of 2009.  His great leadership skills and ability to never meet a stranger made Tyler the best choice for the first Chairman of the Junior Board.  Growing up with a bleeding disorder, Tyler understands the challenges faced by many in this community.

Tyler, along with the rest of the board, would like to bring more awareness of bleeding disorders as well as support Hemophilia of Georgia in any way possible.  This desire to support led to our first fundraising campaign. As camp volunteers we understand how important Camp Wannaklot is for the kids in our community.  During a training meeting in May we decided to hold a Pie in the Face Campaign; our goal was to raise $500 to sponsor one child to attend camp.

We came up with the idea that for every $50 raised a Junior Board member would get pied in the face. We then recruited our HoG advisors Deniece (Health Educator) and Kim (Camp Director) to join us in getting pied! We asked friends, family and other camp volunteers to donate for the campaign. We offered an additional incentive, for every $25 an individual donated he/she would be entered in a raffle to throw a pie.

We held the Pie in the Face event the night before Camp Wannaklot 2013 started. The campaign was a success! We raised $532. We could not have done it without the support of our generous donors. Thank you to all who donated, we really appreciate your support! Be sure to read upcoming issues of Horizons in Hemophilia to get to know all the Junior Board members.  Here are some pictures from the Pie in the Face Campaign.

We love our HoG advisors Deniece and Kim! They are the best for agreeing to get Pied in the Face with us!

Here we all are dressed for getting pied! From left to right: Ashley, Brittany, Almina, Deniece, Kim, Tyler, Deb, Danny and Sidd. Special thanks to Deb for also agreeing to get pied in the face. It takes a village to fundraise!
