Board Member Spotlight: Meet Andrew Maurer
Horizons in Hemophilia, August 2011
By Millie Rondon, Office Manager
With all the changes coming about due to healthcare reform, I thought you might find it reassuring to know that there is a Board member who is not only knowledgeable in this industry, but has experience to boot! Meet Andrew (Andy) Maurer.
HoG first became acquainted with Andy when the agency hired his then-employer, Ernst & Young LLP, to provide us with consulting expertise on a number of issues facing organizations in the health care arena. Andy headed the team that conducted extensive research and ultimately provided us their recommendations on what changes we could expect, how those could affect HoG, and a course of action that would keep Hemophilia of Georgia around for years to come so that we could continue to be there for the bleeding disorder community.
Trish Dominic, HoG's CEO, was so impressed with Andy’s knowledge of the health care field, that once Ernst & Young completed the job they were hired to do, Andy was asked if he would be interested in joining our Board of Directors. After meeting with our Board, Andy was unanimously invited to become a member. In May, Andy began serving his second year of a two-year term but this time in the role of Vice Chief Governance Officer.
Andy attended Emory University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. His employment history includes Navigant Consulting, Inc.; Ernst & Young LLP; and Provident Corporate Finance, LLC. Andy now serves as the Director of Macro Helix, Inc., a firm he helped to establish.
Throughout his career, Andy has provided advisory services to pharmacy providers from single- disease specialty pharmacies to large academic medical centers. His pharmacy experience ranges from business-line strategy development to operational and financial performance improvement initiatives. Andy has assisted some 130 organizations in reducing costs, increasing revenue and achieving operating efficiencies. As you can see, Andy’s past and ongoing experience in the health care industry helps to round out and provide our Board of Directors with valuable insight into the health care arena and what we might expect in the future.
Andy was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He and his wife, Megan, are the proud parents of an adorable little girl named Amelia.
