New Insurance Rules Start September 23

The Affordable Care Act ("the Health Reform Law") offers many benefits to people with bleeding disorders. Some of the new insurance changes start this month. It is important to understand that these changes go into effect for health plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010. What is a health plan year? It is the period of coverage for your health insurance plan. Read more.

New Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans Now Available

The Affordable Care Act offers a way for everyone to get quality, affordable health insurance starting January 1, 2014. Until that date, the federal government is offering a way for people who have been denied health insurance to get coverage. In Georgia, these are called Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plans. They are offered through GEHA, a not-for-profit insurer who currently provides insurance to almost 1 million civilian federal employees. Read more.

Nathan M. has successfully completed his self-infusion training and now joins the ranks of The Mighty Sticker Club. Nathan correctly demonstrated mixing and infusing his factor using aseptic technique while he was a camper at Camp Wannaklot this past summer. Read more.

Open Enrollment is Upon Us!

Open enrollment is the time to review your insurance needs. Open enrollment happens only once a year; typically in October or November. This is the time when you may enroll in or transfer to a different insurance plan offered by your employer. Choosing the right plan is a really important decision and you may have to put in a lot of work to get a good result. Read more.

HoG Scholarship Recipients

Twenty-two students received John Youtsey Memorial Scholarships from Hemophilia of Georgia for the 2010-2011 academic year. Through this program, HoG provides financial assistance to clients who are motivated and talented but lack the resources to achieve their educational goals. Awards are granted based on scholastic achievement, financial need, and personal goals. Read more.
