Hemophilia of Georgia’s Spring Family Camp was held on April 19-21, 2024, at Camp Twin Lakes Will-A-Way in Winder, Georgia. Camp Will-A-Way is Camp Twin Lakes 2nd campus and it is located inside the beautiful Fort Yargo State Park! Twenty-Eight families enjoyed a weekend of networking with other families affected by a bleeding disorder.

The weather was absolutely beautiful Friday night and Saturday. Sunday morning, we encountered a little rain, but the fun continued! On Friday night families got to participate in an evening campfire to open up the weekend that ended with a pretty competitive trivia game. When it was time for bed, families could head to their cabins or wind down with a movie under the amazing night sky! Each morning, families could participate in fishing as the sun came up or yoga. After breakfast on Saturday morning, families became familiar with Camp Will-A-Way surroundings and participated in lots of camp fun. Activities consisted of archery, boating, climbing, hiking, crafts, horseback riding, wood burning, ceramics, and much more! After lunch on Saturday, families participated in one of the 4 educational sessions offered: Canning Food Preservation, Transition from Peds to Adult Clinic 101, Family Total Body Wellness, or a “Got Questions?” session focused on HoG service to clients. Families selected one of these sessions prior to arriving at family camp and could add another session on. When not in an education session, they could sign up for some more camp fun! The fun didn’t stop once the sun went down! Families got to participate in a Camp Will-A-Way Carnival complete with snow cones, games, and a glow in the dark dance party that included black light body paint for under the black lights. As the evening wrapped up, families enjoyed an ice cream treat and time under the stars with a movie complete with popcorn.

Throughout the weekend, we focused on connecting with our new Twin Lakes location, bonding with other families, and learning about total body wellness for mental and physical health. Sunday morning as the rain fell, we wrapped up the weekend with breakfast, some more family fun around camp, and packing up! It was a great weekend for HoG families to get outside, engage with others that are affected by a bleeding disorder, get to know some of the HoG staff, and get away from the hustle and bustle to relax for the weekend.
