Fun, Learning, and Cooler Weather at HoG’s Fall Family Camp!
On the weekend of September 15th, 178 people from 27 families attended Hemophilia of Georgia’s Fall Family Camp at Camp Twin Lakes (CTL) in Rutledge, Georgia. The cooler weather provided families with a perfect atmosphere for outside activities as well as a peaceful, relaxing, and fun-filled weekend.
Families were given the opportunity to participate in hands-on educational activities facilitated by HoG’s Director of Health Education, Nurses, and Social Workers. Activities included:
- What’s Missing Activity - where participants learned about the different components of the blood and how missing factors affect it.
- Infusion Training
- Be Kind to your Mind session - which focused on mindfulness and stress management.
- Yoga
Families loved the education offered according to surveys and an average of 90 percent of our families learned something new in the sessions they attended.
On Friday evening after dinner, families were provided opportunities to engage in card games, cornhole, and an evening campfire. Families had the entire day on Saturday as well as Sunday morning to enjoy all the activities offered by Camp Twin Lakes such as archery, fall crafts, tie dying, fishing, playing mini-golf, paddle boating, visiting the farm, and climbing the tower.
On Saturday evening, families gathered to either play trivia (which included some bleeding disorder questions) or music bingo. It was a relaxing way to cap off a busy day at family camp. To conclude the evening, families enjoyed an ice cream treat. Family bonds are one of the many benefits of HoG’s Family Camp. The next HoG Family Camp will be in the spring.
