HoG Social Worker Cathy Hulbert has been selected as the Region IV South representative to the National Hemophilia Foundation Social Work Working Group.

The Social Work Working Group (SWWG) is a professional working group under the organizational auspice of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Hemophilia Foundation. The SWWG is made up of representatives from each of the 12 federal regions. Cathy will be the Region IV South Representative for a three-year term, representing Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida.

Cathy’s responsibilities will include identifying unmet needs for professionals and clients and developing projects that will meet these needs. This includes aging, women’s issues, transitional challenges for teens, and political advocacy. Cathy will contribute articles to HemAware (the magazine of the National Hemophilia Foundation) and find ways to communicate the needs of the bleeding disorder community to the general public. She will also be asked to monitor the social work activities in our region and collaborate regularly with other social workers and healthcare professionals.

According to Cathy, “What’s so exciting to me is to broaden my horizons about what is happening in the bleeding disorder community. Hopefully this will lead to more ideas and contacts in my work with HoG clients.”
