Social Workers Are Essential: HoG Honors Their Dedication
March is Social Work Month! Throughout this month, Hemophilia of Georgia is honoring and celebrating our social workers: Jazzmine Brown, Christi Humphrey, Jacob Sobel, and HoG’s Director of Social Work, Theresa Schaffer. We are grateful for all they do to help transform the lives of those with inherited bleeding disorders every day! Social workers are essential and play a critical role in advocating for and helping our clients to live as normally and productively as possible…because we know that it takes so much more than medicine! Hemophilia of Georgia provides social work services to everyone we serve. HoG social workers assess patient’s needs and assist them in meeting those needs. Our social workers can:
- Provide education about health insurance, including how to obtain insurance and programs that can assist with premium payments
- Provide education about our social support programs, including preventive dental, educational success, and professional development
- Refer to community resources for financial or social support
- Suggest skills to use for those experiencing needle aversion
- Assist young adults with the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare
- Identify and remove barriers to ensure people use factor as prescribed
We appreciate and value the contributions of our social workers as part of our comprehensive, compassionate, and patient-centered services. If you do not know who your assigned social worker is, please call 770-518-8272.
