Donors Help Kids Get in the Game at Camp Wannaklot

Thanks to generous donors who contributed nearly $35,000, more than 150 kids and teens had a great time at Camp Wannaklot this year.  The theme of Camp Wannaklot 2010 was “Get In the Game” and many of the activities were based on popular games. 

One of the highlights of the week was a custom-made, life-sized game of Life^® that featured visits to the HTC and career choices appropriate for people who have bleeding disorders.  The campers particularly enjoyed dressing their 6-foot tall game pieces in work-appropriate attire and moving them around the gym.  One lucky boy even got a hands-on lesson in how to tie a necktie from one of our HTC physicians.

The campers and counselors played “Minute to Win It” and enjoyed one of the best talent shows ever at Camp Wannaklot. Other activities included a dance with a line dancing instructor, a game night, a game of Clue^® for the junior campers, and a pool party for the teen campers. 

Learning self-infusion is a key part of the camp experience every year.  Several campers made their first sticks this year at camp while others earned the Mighty Sticker designation.  Both groups were congratulated by Hemo the HoG during the closing ceremony on Friday.

In addition, the 17-year-old Leaders in Training learned a lot about healthcare reform and presented their findings to the 16- and 17-year-old campers.
