golf 09Even the pouring rain couldn’t soak the excitement and participation at the 27th annual Hit ’Em for Hemophilia golf tournament on October 27 at Château Élan Winery & Resort in Braselton, Georgia.  A shotgun start sent over 225 golfers to the courses at 10:30 am.  Once again, a special thanks to AT&T for the Platinum Sponsorship of the event.  HoG is very appreciative of the corporate support from AT&T.  Each golfer received a long sleeve mock turtleneck that highlighted this year’s platinum tournament sponsor AT&T.  All golfers also received a goodie bag full of giveaways, promotional items and golf supplies. Due to the inclement weather, the golfers were only able to enjoy 9 holes of golf and then participated in the event reception at the Château Élan Winery Hotel.

The tournament was supported by over 40 corporate sponsors including ADT Security Services, Inc., Amdocs, Andrew Solutions, ATC Logistics and Electronics, Atlanta Braves, Baxter Healthcare, Bayer HealthCare, Bechtel Communications, Bill Bartholomay Foundation, Brown and Company Jewelers, Coca Cola Enterprise, Convergys Corporation,  CSL Behring, Force10 Networks, Goodman Networks, Hardy Chevrolet, Hewlett-Packard, Katt Worldwide Logistics, Keystone Press, LG MobileComm USA, Nokia, Novo Nordisk, SmartTrust, TEKsystems, Telcobuy, United Distributors, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and ZWL Investment Counsel.  Due to the generous support of many organizations the net proceeds from this event were $250,000.

Honorary co-chairs for this year’s event were Bill Hogg from AT&T and Steve McGaw, current HoG Board of Directors member.  Janet Glass, a longtime HoG volunteer, along with Bill Acree of the Atlanta Braves, served as the Golf Tournament co-chairs.  Over 25 prizes were offered in the live and silent auction during the event.  Some of the over 100 raffle prizes included sports apparel from the Atlanta Braves, weekend trips, and autographed and framed Atlanta Braves Jerseys from Chipper Jones and Brian McCann.  Live auction items included an Atlanta Braves Spring Training package weekend get-a-way to Florida as special guest at a game during the Spring Training. A raffle awarding two domestic roundtrip tickets, two business class domestic roundtrip tickets and a pair of international business class roundtrip tickets was sponsored by Delta Air Lines.  Proceeds from the raffle and live auction totaled over $20,000.

Mr. Wayne Alexander was presented the annual Ernie Johnson Award at this year’s event during the afternoon reception. Mr. Alexander was honored for his service, support and participation in the golf tournament. The Ernie Johnson Award is presented each year to a longtime supporter and contributor to the overall success of the annual Hit ’Em for Hemophilia Golf Tournament.

A special thanks to BluNovo Catering, Cabernet Steakhouse, Starbucks Coffee, Taco Mac and Wildfire Atlanta at Perimeter Mall for sponsoring food holes at the tournament.  General Mills supplied a variety of golfer snacks to all tournament participants.  United Distributors once again was the official beverage sponsor of the tournament.  In addition, approximately 60 volunteers were available during the event to assist in making it a huge success. Thanks to all for your support!
