The Mighty Sticker Club Welcomes Two New Members
Karen Clark, RN
Outreach Nurse
Gage B. and Devin O. are the newest members of The Mighty Sticker Club. To become members, both Gage and Devin mastered the steps for self-infusion, which include mixing factor, selecting a vein, sticking themselves with the needle, giving themselves their own factor and completing a treatment calendar. Both young men demonstrated these abilities with their outreach nurse, Karen, observing them.
Gage is not just a new member of The Mighty Sticker Club, he’s also one of HoG’s youngest clients to successfully self-infuse. Last summer, Gage attended Camp Wannaklot for the first time. Prior to camp week, he expressed interest and began learning the steps to self-infusion with his grandmother and his outreach nurse. Being around other boys with the same bleeding disorder at Camp Wannaklot challenged him to complete the process. Gage is now self-sufficient and takes full ownership of the infusion process.
Devin has been self-infusing for a while, but only recently had the chance to share his skills with his outreach nurse. As a member of his high school varsity soccer team, Devin is aware of the importance of infusing his factor and self-infuses prior to games to help prevent bleeds while playing. He also keeps factor on-hand in case of a bleed or injury.
For their accomplishments, both Devin and Gage received a Mighty Sticker Award and gift certificate. Please join us in congratulating Gage and Devin on these milestone achievements. We’re so proud of you and your hard work!
