Spring Adult Retreats

Clients aged 21 and older were invited to enjoy time together at Amicalola Falls State Park and Bagby State Park. The retreats included an overnight stay, meals, and educational workshops facilitated by HoG staff and speakers trained by the National Hemophilia Foundation. Workshops were offered twice, so participants were able to choose two of the three workshops. Many new friendships were formed. People told HoG they enjoyed the adults only time and the beautiful scenery.

Bagby Workshops:

Moving from Emotional Distress to Emotional Health: Developing Self-Awareness and Enhancing Well-Being (Led by HoG Social Worker Christi Humphrey.) Distress is all around us and can come from so many places, chronic medical conditions, work, kids, and schedule. This session looked at distress and offered insights and ideas for working with it in new and creative ways.

Relationships and Intimacy (Led by NHF Presenter Cathy Tiggs.) Intimacy and relationships can have special dynamics for people with bleeding disorders, and also for caregivers. This workshop explored different types of intimacy and offered communication tools and practical ideas to cultivate a rewarding, enjoyable connection with a partner.

It’s Not Too Late to Save Your Joints (Led by NHF Presenter Grace Hernandez.) Whether you’ve never had a joint bleed or have had more than you would like to count, it isn't too late to learn more ways to prevent future joint damage. In this session, attendees learned how to incorporate safe physical activity into their routines and how to address joint bleeds.

Let’s Talk About Sex (Led by Dr. Bobby Tran.) Participants were prepared to discuss uncomfortable issues from sexual positions to toys. Dr. Tran led the discussion of sex as a health issue that can be enjoyed rather than a taboo topic.
