Open Enrollment Begins November 1 on the New Georgia Access Website

By Emily Brown, Director of Social Work

Open enrollment for marketplace health insurance plans begins November 1, 2024. This year, Georgia residents will enroll on the new Statebased Exchange called Georgia Access. This exchange will replace the previous federally run Healthcare.gov. Starting November 1, Georgian’s can shop, compare and enroll in their healthcare plans for 2025 on www.georgiaaccess.gov.

Applicants should enroll by December 16, 2024 for coverage that starts January 1, 2025.  Enrollment ends Wednesday, January 15, 2025. These dates are subject to change, so check with your state's healthcare marketplace directly for confirmation.

It is important to start researching plans early. People who have a bleeding disorder should pay close attention to deductibles and in-network coverage for Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs). Factor concentrate is expensive. That means most people receiving factor will hit their deductible early in the year. Your HoG social worker is available to provide you with education to help you find the plan that best meets your needs. The Georgia Access website also provides help finding local assisters to help navigate enrollment. You can search by county to find local Certified Application Counselors and Navigators who are trained to help you explore your options.

Choosing a healthcare plan can be difficult. Practice caution if contacted by an insurance agent wanting to change your coverage. You could potentially be switched to a plan that will not cover all of your care. If you receive a call like this or are notified that your plan has changed or been terminated, call your assigned Hemophilia of Georgia social worker for help. You can also call us at 770-518-8272 if you don’t have your social worker’s direct number. Georgia Access is holding events designed to help you understand their new website and get more Georgians covered.
