Novoeight Now Available
By Leigh Carpenter, RPh, Director of Pharmacy
Novo Nordisk has recently announced the launch of their new recombinant factor VIII product, Novoeight®. The FDA has approved Novoeight for use in adults and children with hemophilia A. Novoeight is not a long-acting factor VIII product and is dosed the same as other recombinant factor VIII products on the market. According to Novo Nordisk, the product can be stored up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 months. The manufacturer states that this is the highest storage temperature for the longest time of any of the recombinant factor VIII products on the market. If refrigerated, the product is good up to 30 months or until the expiration date indicated on each box. The manufacturer states that Novoeight also has the longest room temperature storage time after reconstitution, four hours. The product can be quickly prepared with the MixPro® device, a one-size syringe. This is the same device used in NovoSeven® (for inhibitors).
Novoeight is available in six different assay ranges: 250IU, 500IU, 1000IU, 1500IU, 2000IU, and 3000IU. Each vial is reconstituted to a 4ml volume and also has a peel-and-stick label to help track doses on treatment calendars. If you are interested in trying Novoeight, please contact your hematologist or Hemophilia Treatment Center.
