Important: State of Georgia Employees

Published February 10, 2012

Horizons in Hemophilia, February 2012

By Jeff Cornett, Director of Training, Research and Advocacy, and Michelle Putnam, Associate Director of Research and Advocacy

Employees of the state of Georgia who meet the income requirements may now choose to have their children covered under PeachCare for Kids instead of the State Health Benefit Plan.

Even though the out-of-pocket costs are lower with PeachCare, parents of children with expensive medical conditions like hemophilia should think carefully before making this change.  That’s because many children with hemophilia who have enrolled in PeachCare have had difficulty getting the care they need. Many do not receive regular home visits or consultations with a social worker or a nurse, and are not able to access the Hemophilia of Georgia pharmacy.

We strongly suggest that you discuss any potential change in your health insurance coverage with your Hemophilia of Georgia social worker.  Your social worker can help you determine how your care or your children’s care would be affected.
