HoG’s Hemophilia Handbook Now Updated & Better Than Ever!

By Coleen Lou, Director of Communications

Published August 27, 2024

The Hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease & Platelet Disorders Handbook, an important, online educational resource, was recently updated to provide the most current and accurate information as well as enhanced, contemporary imagery reflective of our diverse community. The Handbook is a comprehensive guide to living with a bleeding disorder. While it does not replace routine medical care at a hemophilia treatment center (HTC), it can help serve as an invaluable informational resource for those living with a bleeding disorder and their families. While an individual’s own HTC doctor is the best resource and can provide advice based on their personal health and needs, knowing the facts can help those impacted navigate their health better.

The original Hemophilia Handbook was first published and printed in 1988 by Hemophilia of Georgia. It was created as a day-to-day guide for Georgians living with a bleeding disorder and quickly became a renowned resource used around the world. Later in 2007, in response to many requests, Hemophilia of Georgia published The VWD & Platelet Disorders Handbook. Now, both publications are combined online in The Hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease & Platelet Disorders Handbook. The 2024 Handbook update was a yearlong project that was completed by Hemophilia of Georgia staff in collaboration with a team of medical professionals, and the Foundation for Women & Girls with Blood Disorders. With this update, our goal is to improve the Handbook as an informational resource, keep pace with the expanding knowledge of bleeding disorders, and present the information in an easy-to-understand way. We believe that the newly updated Handbook is a comprehensive, informational resource that individuals with bleeding disorders and their families can turn to again and again. We hope you find it helpful!
