HoG Brings Trot to Clot to Columbus
By Kelli White, Special Events/Volunteer Coordinator
It was a beautiful fall day at Rotary State Park on Saturday, September 27th, and HoG’s staff and volunteers started before sunrise to set up for the inaugural Columbus 5k Trot to Clot Walk and Run. There was excitement in the air, not only because this was HoG’s first event in the area, but the walk/run had received some buzz after being featured on the local news. When volunteers and participants arrived there was a lot of energy, despite the chillier than expected temperatures. They were there to help raise money for Camp Wannaklot, the only camp in Georgia that provides children with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders the opportunity to enjoy a safe and fun camp experience.
The Trot to Clot Walk and Run in Columbus began with a Tot Trot for kids ages 2 and under, and shortly after that the runners and walkers were on their way down the trail! The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer was onsite to promote the event, and featured an article in their Monday issue.
Thanks to all of the sponsors of the Columbus Trot to Clot, many of whom came out to the event: Baxter Healthcare, CSL Behring, Pfizer, Lazer Spot, Biogen Idec, Novo Nordisk and Green Oaks Dental.
We would also like to thank everyone who participated or volunteered. Our volunteers in the Columbus area did an amazing job of getting the word out and making the first Trot to Clot Walk and Run in Columbus a great success. We hope to see you at our Trot to Clot Walk and Run events in 2014!
