Fun, Learning, and Cooler Weather at HoG’s Fall Family Camp!
On the weekend of September 17th, 93 people from 13 families attended Hemophilia of Georgia’s Fall Family Camp at Camp Twin Lakes (CTL) in Rutledge, Georgia. The cloudy weather provided families with a perfect atmosphere for outside activities as well as a peaceful, relaxing, and fun-filled weekend.
Families were given the opportunity to participate in an educational game of Jeopardy and compete for different HoG prizes. HoG’s Director of Health Education, Sierra Sledge, conducted three sessions of The National Hemophilia Foundation’s virtual Jeopardy game. Educational topics included: hemophilia, von Williebrand Disease, and bleeding disorder treatment etc. The clients were delighted to have HoG Social Worker, Christi Humphrey as their jeopardy host. HoG Nurses Olivia Kemp and Karen Clark also helped to facilitate the Jeopardy sessions. Participants learned quite a bit of new information about bleeding disorders and had fun while doing it!
On Friday evening after dinner, families were offered the opportunity to engage in crafts, fort building, and were given board games to play in their cabins in case of rain. Families had the entire day on Saturday as well as Sunday morning to enjoy all the activities offered by Camp Twin Lakes such as archery, drumming, swimming, fishing, playing mini-golf, paddle boating, visiting the farm, and climbing the tower.
On Saturday evening, families met on the field for a fun variety of games that went from the familiar cornhole to new favorites like throwing bolas balls at a ladder target. It was heart-warming to see families bond and enjoy Camp Twin Lakes’ popular Wacky-Olympics activity to close out an eventful Saturday full of activities. Family bonds are one of the many benefits of HoG’s Family Camp. The next HoG Family Camp will be in the spring. Watch your mail for an invitation and sign up quickly!
