Dear HoG: Community Resources
Horizons in Hemophilia, Winter 2009
Dear HoG:
My wife was laid off recently and we were really counting on her monthly income to help pay the rent. It’s embarrassing to ask for help, but until she can find a new job we need to know where to look for rent assistance.
--Need Help
Dear Need Help:
These are hard times for many people, but we hope things will look up soon. United Way is an organization that serves as a clearinghouse for agencies that provide some assistance to those in need. United Way serves metropolitan Atlanta and also has branches in north and south Georgia. You can call 404-614-1000 to find out about places in your area where you might be able to get assistance. If you are calling from a telephone land line, simply call “211.” If you live in one of the metro counties, you can go on line at www.unitedwayatlanta.org and click on “2-1-1.”
For those living further south, go to www.unitedwaysouthcentralgeorgia.org or call 1-800-572-0342. There is also United Way of Northwest Georgia. The website is www.ourunitedway.org and the phone number is 706-CAN-HELP (226-4357). United Way of Northeast Georgia is www.unitedwaynega.org. The phone number for help in that area is 706-543-5254.
Make sure and have a paper and pen ready when you call. Hopefully they will give you several resources to contact for assistance. Please let your HoG social worker know that you are going through tough times so that you can look for resources together. Good luck.
