Camp Wannaklot 2010

Published April 9, 2010

Horizons in Hemophilia, April 2010

By Kim Wilson, Camp and Activities Coordinator

Hemophilia of Georgia's Camp Wannaklot is preparing for its 17th camping season. Children ages 7-17 who reside in the state of Georgia and have hemophilia or another inherited bleeding disorder are eligible to attend this week-long, co-ed residential camping program. We anticipate more than 150 campers this year and need approximately 100 volunteer counselors and medical staff for this one-week camp.

Hemophilia of Georgia partners with Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia to provide facilities, programming, personnel for specialized programming, and food service for our campers.

We need people like you to volunteer to live, laugh and play with the campers. Where else do you get to go horseback riding, shoot an arrow with a bow, go on a nature hike, play and splash on the paddle boats, swim every day, and bring a smile to the face of a child? Camp Wannaklot is the place where our campers accomplish some of life's great milestones. It may be their first night away from home, the first time to swim in the deep end, and the first time they meet a mentor - someone who may make a lifelong impression on them. That is what camp is all about! Camp can't happen without you - a caring, dedicated volunteer who is willing to give so much to the campers. That is why we need you for Camp Wannaklot 2010.

Parents and family members of campers ARE eligible to apply to volunteer. Counselors must be at least 18 years old, be available for the entire week of camp and have a strong desire and passion for working with children. If you'd like to apply to serve as a camp counselor, please download the Volunteer Application at www.hog.org or contact Kim Wilson at 770-518-8272 or via email at kawilson@hog.org. All Camp Wannaklot volunteers will report on Saturday, July 17, 2010 for orientation. Campers will arrive at Camp Twin Lakes on Sunday, July 18 and everyone will head home on Friday, July 23.
