Advocates Return In-Person for 2024 HoG Day at the Capitol
Georgia’s 2024 legislative session is in full swing, and we are excited to share that HoG Day at the Capitol took place in person for the first time since 2019! Our staff and volunteers gathered at the State Capitol on Monday, February 26th, 2024, to educate and advocate for the bleeding disorder community.
Our advocates hosted a Hemophilia of Georgia table inside the Capitol and had the opportunity to meet with legislative stakeholders throughout the morning. Patients shared stories about living with a bleeding disorder and the positive impact HoG has had on their lives. Educating lawmakers is one step in ensuring that our community continues to get the comprehensive care needed to live productive lives. We also advocated for access to adequate and affordable health care for the uninsured and ways to make sure that people with bleeding disorders have access to comprehensive care.
Additionally, we are pleased to share that the Georgia House and Senate issued respective resolutions to recognize and commend Hemophilia of Georgia! Both resolutions recognize staff and volunteers for our work on behalf of individuals with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders in Georgia, throughout our nation, and around the world.
The House resolution was sponsored by Representatives Sharon Cooper (Marietta), Lee Hawkins (Gainesville), Deborah Silcox (Sandy Springs), Stan Gunter (Blairsville), and Gerald Greene (Cuthbert). The Senate resolution was sponsored by Senators Josh McLaurin (Sandy Springs), Sally Harrell (Atlanta), John Albers (Roswell), Steve Gooch (Dahlonega), Greg Dolezal (Cumming), and Nabilah Islam Parkes (Duluth).
