Sexuality
It is rare to experience a bleeding event from having sex. If you do have bleeds after sex, you may try treatment with factor or other medications beforehand. For most people with Hemophilia, joint problems cause more problems during sex than bleeds do. If your joints hurt during sex, ask your doctor for advice. You may find it helpful to try different positions.
Women with bleeding disorders and their partners can worry about bleeding and bruising during sex. Worrying about sex can cause a lack of desire. It can make it difficult for a man to have an erection or a woman to feel sexually ready. The worry can also be caused by a poor self-image, worry about pregnancy, or concern about getting a sexually transmitted disease or infection (STD/STI). Sexual worries are best relieved by talking about them. Share your feelings, fears, desires, and needs with your partner. Discuss and try to agree on birth control and family planning. Learn all you can about ways to prevent giving or getting a STD/STI. If you need more help, talk to the nurse or social worker at your HTC.
