A Note About Cell Phone Use at Camp
We appreciate our volunteers for taking time away from a busy life to spend a week with our campers. We understand that there will be times when you will need to use your cell phone while you are at camp. It is our desire to offer our campers and volunteers the whole camp experience–the beauty of nature found at camp, the opportunity to make new friends, and the ability to escape their everyday routine for a week. We have learned that we all need as few distractions as possible in order for this to happen. Please follow these guidelines to keep phone distractions to a minimum:
-
Please use your phone during “off” times only and not during meals, during camp activities or while walking with campers to and from activities. This includes uses such as social networking, texting, calls, etc.
-
Please use your phone in areas away from campers, not in the cabin or in sight of an activity area. Take your break time to check in, then return to your cabin group.
-
A camper should never be allowed to use your phone.
The camp staff will encourage all counselors to follow these guidelines and may ask you to leave the area or end your call quickly. We don’t expect you to cut off all contact with the world outside of Camp Wannaklot, but we know from experience that both youth and adult participants need as few distractions as possible to get the whole camp experience!
