SnowJam 2014: the Kindness of Strangers, the Generosity of Friends and the Power of a Very Large SUV
The HoG offices closed at noon on Tuesday as the snow storm began in earnest. I was attending a luncheon and left early, but it was too late. It took me three hours to drive to the exit nearest the office, normally a 15 minute trip. I knew there was no way I could make it all the way home.

Volunteering: A Personal Story
June of 1989 was my first experience with volunteering. In May of that year I completed middle school and was anxiously looking forward to beginning high school in the fall. As with most soon-to-be 14 year old boys, I was filled with anxiety about starting a new school. To make matters worse I was facing an entire summer of sitting around my house worried about the upcoming change.

Celebrate the Season with New Traditions
We all have family holiday traditions. Often traditions seem to happen spontaneously and evolve from year to year on their own. Sometimes, as family dynamics change, we find it difficult to keep those traditions intact and they come to an end. So how do you fill that void? How do you create a meaningful and enduring tradition?

Applying for Social Security Disability with Hemophilia

Our Story

Then one day as I was driving my son to school, he called my name as blood was pouring out of his nose. It scared me but I could not be afraid as my son was evidently frightened.

Why I Volunteer
I am going share with you one reason that I volunteer with Trot to Clot. One of the most important things to me in life is sharing experiences with my family; both my immediate family and my extended family. I have a loving wife Mary Beth, and three young kids, Madilynn, Makenzie, and Joseph. The Trot to Clot Walk and Run is such an easy way to get my family involved with the community.

Asking Friends and Relatives to Donate to Hemophilia of Georgia
Over the past several years we have been asked by friends to donate to charities that would benefit their family members or that they were particularly interested in. We were more than happy to divert some our charitable donations to these charitable organizations.
When our grandson Ethan was diagnosed with hemophilia we re-directed most of our charitable donations to Hemophilia of Georgia but continuing to donate to those charities championed by our friends and other select charities.

Did you know that the HoG and Beacon pharmacies only distribute sterile alcohol wipes and swabs?
Back in 2011 there were two voluntary recalls of alcohol swabs and wipes. In January, there was a voluntary recall by the manufacturer for alcohol wipes and swabs that may have been contaminated by bacteria. In August, there was a recall of alcohol swabsticks, which are primarily used for PICC lines or ports.
