RECALL NOTICE: Bayer is voluntarily recalling two lots of Kogenate® FS antihemophilic factor (recombinant) 2000 IU vials in the United States to the patient level because the vials contain a different hemophilia treatment.

Parker's Story
Support Research for a Cure

Every three days, eight-year-old Parker’s mom helps him inject medicine into one of his veins. Parker has severe hemophilia. Signs of the disorder, which affects the blood’s ability to clot, began appearing when he was an infant. His mother Kristie told us, “As he went on, the bruises just kept coming.” Kristie had no family history and no complications with her first child, so she was stunned to learn she was a carrier for hemophilia. She found out only after Parker’s little brother, Oliver, was diagnosed, too.

Prior Authorizations are Becoming the Norm

Most insurance plans require prior authorizations when filling factor prescriptions. A prior authorization (PA) is a process used by health insurance companies to determine if they will pay for a prescribed procedure, service, or medication. The process is intended to act as a safety and cost-saving measure, although it has received criticism from healthcare providers for being costly and time-consuming.

During the past hurricane with all the power outages, we received a question on factor that we wanted to share with everyone.
Q: What should I do if I lose power and have factor in the refrigerator?
A: You should remove the factor from the refrigerator and write the current date on it. It can keep for up to six months at room temperature.
